The Shimano SM-SH56 SPD cleats are a 'multi-release' design which allows your shoe to release from the pedal by rolling or twisting in any direction. It is even possible, given sufficient force, to disengage by pulling upwards making these the ideal cleat for people getting used to clip-in pedals and who are nervous about not being able to get their feet out.
